Interlocking driveways in King City

In the Township of King's villages, a lot with a detached or semi-detached house may be no more than 60 per cent hard landscaping, or 80 per cent for a townhouse, counted over the whole lot. A wider drive or a new walk draws on that same allowance, so we measure what is already hard surface first, then draw the new paving to fit what remains.

A driveway catches more than tires. Roof water from downspouts that empty onto it is led off where possible, so it is not spread across the stones, and the edge restraint is kept firm so the outer rows do not creep toward the lawn. Where a drive is widened within the lot's allowance, the new strip gets the same base as the old one, so the two halves settle alike.

Sloped driveways: steps, walls and drainage

King City is rolling hills, so many driveways climb or fall between the street and the garage, and the moraine lifts air from Lake Ontario into regular precipitation over them. We grade the base to a steady pitch so the pavers sit flat across the width and water goes where it is sent. Where the ground beside the drive drops faster than the drive, a low wall or slab steps take up the difference.
